Anne was Member of Parliament for Guildford 2005-2019. She served on the Health Select Committee and was appointed Shadow Minister for Gambling, Licensing and Tourism and subsequently Shadow Minister for Health. She was appointed Minister for Public Health in 2010, served 5 years in the Whips Office and was Deputy Chief Whip 2015-2017. She was appointed Minister for Women, and for Skills and Apprenticeships from 2017 until 2019. She stood in the 2019 general election as an Independent Candidate.
Anne has worked with several organisations including KPMG, City and Guilds, Serco, PLMR and Pearson. She now: Chairs the Social Value Advocacy Board for PeoplePlus; is an Engagement Director for the Purpose Health and Social Care Coalition; is an Independent Chair of the 5% Club Business Leadership Council: a judge for the FE Week and AELP National Apprenticeship and Training Awards; and was author of the chapter ‘Tackling the Health Crisis’ for The Case for the Centre Right. Anne continues to work with organisations involved in skills, further education and health.
Before entering politics Anne trained as a nurse and worked in the NHS for 25 years.
